Fitness · Driving Licence and FeV

Driving fitness and FeV reports,
done quickly, explained personally.

You need a fitness certificate for renewing your HGV licence, the passenger transport licence or the recreational boating licence. We usually arrange the appointment within a week and you take the certificate with you on the same day.

What you book.

HGV Fitness (category C / CE)

Mandatory assessment for professional drivers. Annex 5 of FeV. Vision, exercise ECG, general fitness.

Passenger transport (category D, taxi, driving instructor)

For bus, taxi and driving instructor activities. Annex 5 + 6 of FeV. Extended examination compared to HGV.

Recreational boating licence (sea / inland)

Certificate to apply for the recreational boating licence. Vision, hearing test, general fitness.

Which category
fits you?

HGV (category C / CE): professional drivers, freight forwarders, construction transport. Examination under Annex 5 of FeV.

Passenger transport (category D, taxi, driving instructor, coach): Annex 5 + 6 of FeV, because the responsibility for passengers is additionally assessed.

Recreational boating licence: different legal basis (sea / inland), but a comparable medical certificate in terms of content.

  • Previous fitness certificate (for renewal)

Optional / if available

  • Hearing aids
  • Findings from prior examinations (ophthalmologist, ENT, cardiology)
  • EC card or cash for payment

Disclose pre-existing conditions

What we need to know in advance.

For HGV (C/CE) and passenger transport you are legally required to disclose relevant pre-existing conditions. The basis is Annex 4 of the FeV.

Relevant condition categories
  • Cardiovascular conditions (e.g. heart attack, severe high blood pressure)
  • Diabetes mellitus
  • Conditions of the nervous system (e.g. epilepsy, Parkinson's, MS)
  • Psychiatric conditions, alcohol or drug misuse
  • Sleep disorders with daytime sleepiness (e.g. sleep apnoea)
  • Severe vision or hearing impairments

Not every cold needs to be reported. What matters are conditions that can permanently impair reaction time or attention.

How we handle this

At appointment booking we ask about existing conditions and medication. Depending on findings, prior examinations (e.g. long-term ECG) or medical letters may be required.

Medical confidentiality: The driving licence authority only learns whether you meet the requirements, not why.

What we examine.

Always included

  • History (prior illnesses, medication, previous fitness assessments)
  • Vision test (visual acuity, colour vision, visual field)
  • Hearing test
  • General physical examination

Additional for HGV and passenger transport

  • ECG
  • Blood pressure measured in several positions
  • Exercise ECG in special constellations (pre-existing conditions, age over 50, restrictions)

For the recreational boating licence

  • Focus on vision (colour vision for signal lanterns, daytime vision, dusk)
  • Hearing capacity (signal horns, radio communication)

What you still want to know.

How long is the certificate valid?

Usually 5 years. From age 50 onwards still 5 years. For the recreational boating licence there is no general expiry — the certificate is required to apply for the licence.

Do I need an appointment or can I drop by?

We work strictly by appointment. Two reasons: predictable waiting time for you and enough time for the examination. Appointments are usually available within a week.

Do I need to come fasting?

No. Eat and drink normally before the appointment. Just avoid unusually strenuous activities immediately beforehand, otherwise the ECG would not be representative.

What happens if I am not fit?

We explain the finding in person and discuss with you which next steps are possible. Sometimes a treatment is enough (e.g. visual aid) and fitness can be certified after a follow-up. We do not issue unverified certificates.

Is an MPU assessment done together?

No. The medical-psychological assessment (MPU) is performed exclusively by officially recognised assessment centres. We can give a recommendation on request.

From our practice philosophy

„Anyone driving professionally bears responsibility. The fitness assessment is not an obstacle but a way station for the safety of everyone in the car, in the bus or on the road alongside."

Request an appointment.

Tell us which examination you need and by when. We respond within one working day with a concrete proposal.
